NREL Geothermal

The challenges and goals: This project was very simple in scope: as NREL built a geothermal experimental facility atop Table Mountain, we were to recreate that facility as an interactive web experience. And please do it as "3D" as possible. And it's a tight budget. No problem.

The big idea: Allow users at the NREL Visitor Center to see and explore the Table Mountain facility as if a giant bore-hole driller had lifted it out of the earth. Further, our web site pulls live data from the facility; so users are presented with real time and historical data about the experiment and findings. By presenting just the facility and surrounding test field, and making the whole experience interactive via Flash and live data, users can explore and learn about the entire facility/experiment at their own pace.

The result: NREL is very excited to launch the facility and the online experience this Fall.

Cool stuff done:

  • User experience strategy and architecture
  • Web graphic design and illustration
  • Web site development
  • Flash development
  • Integration of site with data logger database
